Who DAC8 concerns & what you have to do

DAC8 concerns both:

- Crypto service providers operating within or serving EU residents.
Under DAC8, EU-regulated crypto platforms such as zondacrypto* must collect and report specific information about user transactions to the relevant EU tax office.

- Individual users who buy, sell, or otherwise transact with crypto assets.
While you may be required to provide additional verification data, we are striving to minimize any extra steps required from you as a zondacrypto end user.

You are affected by DAC8 if:

- You are an EU tax resident

- You buy, sell, swap, receive, or send crypto assets

- You use an exchange or wallet provider that serves EU users

- You are active on multiple exchanges (every exchange is obliged to report independently)

You are not affected by DAC8 if:

- You do not reside in the EU and do not transact with any EU-based platforms

- You only hold crypto and do not make any transactions. Important note: even holding certain reported crypto-assets may still be subject to reporting by the platform, depending on the local tax authority interpretation.

DAC8 coverage

  1. DAC8 applies to all EU Member States. Any crypto-asset transaction performed by an EU tax resident, regardless of the platform’s headquarters, falls under this reporting framework.
  2. If they have any EU clients, crypto service providers based outside the EU must also comply with DAC8. This way, the directive reaches well beyond Europe and applies to global exchanges offering services to EU users.

Complete KYC and AML procedures
- You may be asked to provide updated personal information (Tax Identification Number  -TIN, tax residency, country of residence).
- This is a regulatory requirement - not a platform preference.

- If your tax residency changes, update it in your zondacrypto account settings.
Track and store your transaction history
- Maintain your own transaction records (highly recommended by us).
Understand that
- DAC8 doesn't impose any tax obligations on users.
- Reporting happens automatically and platforms like zondacrypto will report transactions as required by DAC8 with no extra effort on your end.
- Your task is to review your local tax obligations and file your tax return accordingly.

DAC8 FAQ

DAC8 is an EU directive introducing automatic information exchange rules for crypto-assets. It requires platforms like zondacrypto to collect and report information about their users and crypto transactions to national tax authorities.

DAC8 applies to “reportable crypto-assets,” including those used for payments or investments (e.g. Bitcoin, Ethereum). Certain assets, like Central Bank Digital Currencies and specific e-money tokens, are excluded.

DAC8 will become applicable on 1 January 2026. The first reporting period will be the calendar year 2026. The first exchange of information is scheduled to take place by 2027.

The data collected will be used solely for the purpose of fulfilling reporting obligations to the competent tax authorities of EU Member States.

These authorities may use the information provided for taxation, control, and enforcement purposes within their jurisdictions.

As a regulated service provider, zondacrypto is required to verify users’ tax residency and collect accurate details, including their Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), to comply with EU reporting obligations under DAC8.

At this stage, no action is needed. We will contact you to confirm your details or request any missing information if necessary. Our team is working to make this process as seamless as possible for you.

No. The DAC8 directive applies to all Crypto-Asset Service Providers offering services to EU residents, not only to zondacrypto.
The requirement is imperative, there is no opt-out possibility if you want to continue receiving services.
