Kusama was created as a means for developers to test blockchain capabilities and take risks that would otherwise not be possible on Polkadot.
Kusama is an experimental development environment with a very similar codebase to Polkadot. It’s built on Substrate with extensive interoperability and scalability features, making it possible to push the limits of rapid blockchain app deployment.
The project was founded in 2016 by Gavin Wood, the co-founder of Ethereum and inventor of the coding language Solidity, together with Peter Czaban and Robert Habermeier.
