How to use passkeys?

What is a multi-factor authentication (MFA)?

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is crucial as it adds layers of security to the user's account. It requires you to provide two or more forms of verification to log in, not just your password.

Passkeys are an advanced and modern way of multi-factor authentication, which is now available to all clients of zondacrypto exchange. Passkeys are safe from phishing attempts and are also strong against guessing or brute-force attacks. They use public key cryptography for authentication instead of relying on a shared password.

Passkeys consist of a public key on the server and a private key securely stored on your device. This setup makes it extremely difficult for attackers to steal your information through data breaches or phishing scams.

 

How do you start using a passkey?

To keep your account secure with passkeys MFA, log in to your zondacrypto account and go to the Account Settings page. Choose the Security tab. In the 2-Factor Authentication section, you can find a new option called "Passkeys". 

Here’s how to set up your first passkey:

1. To configure your first passkey, click on the Add button and begin the process.
   
    
2. Get to know about main features of passkeys and how they work. Continue the process by clicking Get started button.
   
    
3. Choose a name for your passkey. This will help you recognize it later among all your registered passkeys. Once you’ve picked a title, click the Continue button.
   
    
4. Register your passkey. An automatic popup will appear to let you register a system, browser-based software passkey, or a hardware key such as a Yubikey with your zondacrypto account. Make sure that your system or browser isn’t blocking the popup. If it is, please allow it to finish the passkey registration step.
5. Authorise your passkey. After registering, you’ll need to confirm the new passkey using a standard 2-factor authentication method, such as SMS, Google Authenticator, or Email, depending on your account settings.

6. Success! You can begin using your passkey as a main method of multi-factor authentication at zondacrypto exchange.
    

Where do I find my registered passkeys and how can I control them?

1. Log in to your zondacrypto account and go to the Account Settings page. Choose the Security tab. In the 2-Factor Authentication section, you can find an option called “Passkeys”.
2. Click on the Manage button to go to the Passkeys management page.
   
    
3. You can check and manage your registered passkeys here: Add new, Remove or Rename one of the existing passkeys.
   
    

How does a new passkey multi-factor authentication work?

Once you activate your passkey by adding at least one key, your main way to log in will automatically change to Passkeys. Now, in every place within the zondacrypto exchange, you will need to authenticate yourself with one of your registered passkeys. See an example below.

 

 If you can’t access any of your passkeys, you can always use a different option by clicking on the Cannot use my passkeys button. 

In that a case, you’ll use standard 2-factor authentication instead, which could be via SMS, Google Authenticator, or Email based on your account’s security settings.

I don’t want to use the passkeys as multi-factor authentication anymore.

As long as there is at least one registered passkey on your zondacrypto account - passkeys will be the primary method of multi-factor authentication. 

If you don't want to use passkeys for multi-factor authentication anymore, you need to remove all of them from your zondacrypto account via the Passkeys management page:

1. Click the Delete button (trashcan icon) next to the passkey you want to delete.

2. Confirm by clicking Yes, delete. Then authorise the process with a standard multi-factor authentication method or alternatively with a selected standard 2-factor authentication method (SMS, Google Authenticator or Email).
   
   
    
3. Once you complete these steps, the passkey will be removed and won't be used for multi-factor authentication anymore.

How to rename my passkey?

If you want to change the title of the passkey:

1. Go to the Passkeys management page.
2. Click the Edit button (pencil icon) next to the selected passkey you want to change. 
3. You can now edit the title. Type in the new title and save it by clicking the Confirm button (V icon). 
4. If you changed your mind, cancel the change by clicking the Close button (X icon).
5. The title of the selected passkey has been updated.
